Hi Everybody,
While the popularity of TrueAiki.com is high, we are still running on a shoe string budget. TrueAiki isn’t subscription based and anything posted to TrueAiki.com is available to all. There is a reason for this. Mine is a single income family trying to survive on my public school teacher’s salary. We never eat out. For the kids clothes we shop at the Goodwill. Parents get clothes on a need to cover basis. I make all repairs around the home and if I can’t fix it, it doesn’t get fixed. Because my wife can make a delicious meal out of anything and asks for nothing, we meet our budget most months. I try to put some money away for the months when we run out of cash.* As you can see, I understand that not all martial arts enthusiasts can afford the best training. Like my children, I too grew up in a single income family living on my father’s public school teacher’s income. I was blessed to have many great martial arts teachers who were more interested in my enthusiasm for their art than they were in my money. That is why everyone that trains in my dojo trains for free. And that is why all of TrueAiki.com is available for all readers.
If you can afford it, please consider making a donation or becoming a Patreon of TrueAiki.com. Your donations will directly benefit TrueAiki.com and its readers around the world. And if you find yourself in Portland, Oregon, look me up! All that visit get world class training for free and I try to teach as much as you have time to train!

There has been a lot going on behind the scenes here at TrueAiki.com. There have been invisible changes to the webpage that have made it both faster and cheaper to maintain. A BIG thanks to our web master Michal for that! Meanwhile, back in the studio, we’ve added a third HD camera, more lighting, and enhanced the set so that we can film from better angles. I’m excited to get back to shooting more of Shirata’s Tandoku Dosa. There is a lot of video footage from teaching in Spain, Germany and The Netherlands this summer that can be edited into some interesting video blogs as well.
Despite the best that Aiki has to offer isn’t techniques, the one video I posted of a technique example has been, by far, the most popular. With that in mind, in addition to the essentially important Aiki stuff, I can share a nearly endless collection of techniques, both empty handed and with weapons. Maybe that will be of historic value since they are reflected in Aikijujutsu no Densho, Budo Renshu, Aikido Ichi no maki, Budo, the Asahi film, etc. In other words, Ueshiba’s Daito Ryu/Aikido.
Getting up an hour early each morning is working out and I’ve been able to post each week or more. This post is a product of waking up at 5:45am on a Saturday morning! It is quite peaceful. Acorns are falling from the trees and squirrels are busy packing them away. The weather is getting a little cooler, each morning the sun is rising a little later and setting a little earlier each evening.
Wishing you safety and wellness,
Allen
*I have the best kids ever! They have never, ever, complained about not having “stuff” or the right “stuff” that their friends have. They are top notch students and good hearted people. Why? I think my kids are so great because my wife, who has a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Yale, opted to be a World’s Best Mom rather than a World’s Best Scientist. On top of that, she is good spirited, loving, and unflaggingly supportive of me and the crazy stuff I do. Our house is shared openly and enthusiastically with a bunch of Budo bums, and she holds down the fort when I’m away teaching. Color me a happy, lucky guy!
True Aiki is free for all to read, but it is not free. As little as $1 can help to cover expenses and possibly add features to True Aiki.
Thank You!
